Bad weather has caused many a sleepless night for brides and grooms in the weeks leading up to their weddings! Bad weather, especially in Calgary and the Rocky Mountains, can come in many forms and at any time. It seems like a worst case scenario after all the hard work of wedding planning and all the time thinking about your amazing wedding photos. Not to worry! although many types of weather can be unexpected, or not what you hoped for when you were planning your dream wedding, most types of weather can be dealt with easily, and you'll still be able to get wedding photos that you'll love and want to share!

There are lots of different varieties of weather that might be considered 'bad' there is rain, snow, wind, clouds, fog, freezing temperatures or even wild fire smoke. The first thing, and the most important to remember, is that no normally-occurring weather is enough to ruin your wedding day if you don't let it. You and your wedding photographer can always make a plan to make the best out of the weather, but no plan will work if you're letting the 'bad weather' bring you down!

The second thing to remember is that with the right gear and clothes you can make most types of weather comfortable or at least bearable! Getting a chance to stick it out for your wedding photos in unexpected weather can make for some of the most memorable and amazing photos. You might just need to get a fur shawl and some hand warmers to help warm you up or a few nice white umbrellas to keep the rain off your head. With just a bit of extra gear and planning you can reap the rewards of having wedding photos that are totally different from anything you've seen before!

The third thing to remember is that you can always go indoors. You might just want to take quick stops indoors to warm up between photos on a cold or rainy day or you can use your ceremony or reception venue to still get awesome portraits of the two of you together. There are also a few places in the city where you can rent beautiful indoor spaces in case of bad weather. There is also the possibility of using covered outdoor spaces like gazebos, patios, verandas or band shells to still get outdoor photos while staying in a bit of shelter

Of course, there are tons of specific small tips for each of the different types of weather that can help to get amazing photos, and we'd be happy to talk about all those when we're discussing your wedding day plans, but the keys are to stay positive, dress for the weather and go inside if you need to. It's always good to have a specific plan when you see the forecast for your wedding day. We look forward to helping you make it!
