Our Approach

Our approach to wedding photography is built on relationships. It’s important to us that we build trust and create a friendship with you. We want you to feel comfortable enough to invite us into your most intimate wedding moments. In turn, this allows us to create real and powerful images. As you plan your wedding we will provide opportunities to work together so we can get to know you as a couple.

With this carefully crafted approach we often arrive to the weddings we get to photograph feeling like we’re catching up with old friends.

Lastly, we want you to have an incredible wedding day experience. We put having fun first! We DO NOT believe in awkward poses and making your wedding day about anyone else besides you. We know that the best photos come from couples who are genuinely having a great time. We’ll help you plan ahead and budget enough time for doing the things you actually want to do on your wedding day, like actually attending your cocktail hour.

If that all sounds good to you, we might just be the perfect wedding photographers for your big day. Drop us a line, we can’t wait to connect!

Fun facts about Brendan

The only thing Brendan loves more than Jurassic Park itself is telling me fun facts about Jurassic Park.

Brendan is our household human garburator. He does not like food waste and, therefore, will eat anything and everything in the fridge.

Brendan will fully commit to a monkey bit to get a kid (or adult) smiling for a photo.

Brendan is bad at math, like really bad. Watching him do it is painful but hilarious. Needless to say, I’m glad he always carries a calculator in his pocket.

Brendan cares… A LOT. He cares about other people’s feelings, he cares about his work and he cares about his loved ones. He often puts others first, which is why people tend to gravitate towards him.

Brendan is my best friend; he would be my ride-or-die on a reality tv show. He makes our household more organized and my life so much better.

Fun facts about Adele

When Adele gets together with her sister, you need a translator to decipher all the inside jokes and 90’s Disney references.

Adele is very driven. Once she gets a goal in her head, there isn't anything that will stop her from reaching it, but only on her own terms!

Adele can make a weird popping noise with her mouth that always makes babies laugh for some reason.

Adele has unique and unconventional creativity. She sees things and thinks differently, and it is incredible to watch.

When Adele sees a fuzzy dog or one with a blocky head, she grits her teeth too hard. It's unhealthy.

Adele is hilarious and genuine; she makes sure that I think about meals before I am starving. She makes me a better person, and I love her more every day. (Except for when I step on her bobby-pins.)

 Our Story

Our story begins with our first date to a Calgary Flames game. Even though Adele was more interested in the popcorn than the hockey it still worked out. At the time we each had our own photography companies Brendan Nogue Photography and Photos By Adele and had both started photographing weddings years before. As time passed we continued to share our love of photography, travel and our dog, Norma-Jean.

As our companies grew and we worked as a team at weddings more often we realized we were better together – imagine that! Whenever we worked together, we found that we laughed a lot, worked off of each other’s creativity and pushed ourselves to be better photographers. So after nine years, over 150 weddings and our own wedding day (no, we didn’t photograph it ourselves) we are beyond happy to introduce you to the new us, we are The Nogues.

Over the years, we have both developed into strong photographers who are continuously striving to push the boundaries of our creativity. We love each other’s unique perspectives and are both driven to create excellent relationships with all the couples we photograph.

Together we bring a totally one-of-a-kind experience to the wedding photography world that we are extremely proud of.

As we move forward as a two-photographer team we can’t wait to bring you jaw-dropping, real and fun images of the most special moments from your wedding day.

Love,

F. A. Q.

How would you describe your wedding photography style?

We think of our style as ‘elevated documentary.’ What on Earth does that mean, you say?! It means our main priority is capturing what is real, like wedding photojournalism, but we want to bring real up a level or two! We work as a team to get the best angles, use the right equipment and add lighting to make unreal images that match the unreal feeling of your day. At the core it is still the emotions and people that are the most important, but we work full blast all day to elevate the images so they have the same magic in them that you felt.

Can my guests take photos on my wedding day?

Absolutely! They are your family and friends and they are there to celebrate and have fun with you! However, during your ceremony you may prefer your guests to stay seated, nothing is a romantic buzz-kill like chairs scrapping against the floor. Considering an unplugged ceremony where no one is on their devices is definitely a great option for some people as it can make you feel more connected with your guests when you can see their faces and not their phones.

Do we get all the photographs you take?

The last wedding we photographed we took about 6,500 images, each! If we were to give that many photos we feel like we would get hate mail and with good reason. With that being said, we take multiple photographs of the same thing and choose the best ones. From there we carefully choose and edit those images to give to you on an easy to use USB. We never limit the amount of photographs we give; the ones that turn out best are put on your USB! Don't worry you won't be lacking for photos!

Do you back up our images?

We're almost TOO careful when it comes to backing up our photographs. Our cameras each have two memory card slots, so every image we take automatically gets backed up just in case. From there we then upload the raw files onto two back-up drives. We also backup all the photos to the cloud until we give you the finished ones.

What do we do if it rains on our wedding day?

There are lots of indoor locations that are great for photography in Calgary, and we are always ready to photograph in any situation! We will always make a rain plan for your day which will depend on your style, timeline and wedding location. This is part of our consultation a week before your wedding.

What if there are other unforeseen circumstances?

We pride ourselves on being flexible so we always do our best to make any situation work. Whether it requires us staying extra hours on the day, helping to move chairs or rescheduling the date entirely.

Do you recommend Any vendors?

You bet, we know all sorts of amazing people in the wedding industry all the way from florists to transportation! We will only recommend if asked and if we’ve seen them in action. We will always encourage you to go with your gut! If your gut doesn’t know we might have some great wedding professionals in mind that we have worked with in the past.

Do you offer wedding videography?

The short answer to this is no.

Our much more in depth answer is this, we believe in elevating the raw, candid and real elements of your wedding day. This practice takes a lot of energy and teamwork to express through photography. To provide the same level of photography and videography to your finished product would compromise what we believe in. With that being said, we know some amazing videographers that we'd be happy to share with you!

Are you able to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination?

The Nogues Photography team is fully vaccinated (with boosters) and happy to show proof of vaccination.

Do you offer engagement photos?

You bet! In fact we believe it’s such a good chance for us to get to know each other that we offer it for free for wedding days over 8 hours of coverage. A wedding day is filled with your closest family and friends; the last thing we want you to be thinking is “who’s the weirdo photographer.”

What do we do if something happens to you?

We are a team so we have a backup built in, but if neither of us are able to photograph your wedding we have other options. We are close with other photographers and photography teams who we can suggest and help you transition to. Your day would get beautifully photographed, and that’s a promise. But hopefully that doesn’t happen because even if we have to make our way like John Candy and Steve Martin in Trains, Planes and Automobiles, we’ll make our way to your wedding.

Do I have to get engagement photos?

Because we believe engagement photos provide a great chance to get to know each other before the wedding, we strongly recommend the session for wedding days over 8 hours of coverage. However it’s not mandatory, and since it is truly a free service, the session cannot be exchanged or swapped out with other services.

How long does it take to get our wedding photos back?

Since we don’t limit the number of photographs we take or deliver, it takes between six to eight weeks from the wedding date to upload, carefully select, touch up each image and deliver them to you on a USB. Need a few for your thank you card? We are happy to email a few right away!

When should we book our wedding photography?

We feel most comfortable taking wedding bookings between one and one-and-a-half years from the wedding date. But we'd love to hear from you any time. Usually photographers are booked right after the venue.

Do you offer discounts for off-season wedding photography?

Yes, we do depending on that year’s availability. Often there are less weddings in November, January, February and March, but every year is different so please feel free to contact us for a special quote.

Will you help us with our schedule?

Yes, planning a wedding is hard! Even after photographing weddings for eleven years, at the time we got married in 2019, we were still surprised by how many things there are to do! We will help you out in any way we can, but the schedule is one of the big ones. We can give you suggestions of how long things will take, what are good photo locations for you and things to consider you might not have thought of. We'll even make you the list of family photos to take so we don't forget about Aunt Ginny!

Do you offer photo booths?

At this time we do not offer photo booth, however, we strongly recommend checking out Flash Co. Not only do we know you’ll be in good hands, they are super friendly, provide fun backgrounds and props and can print your photo on site - how cool is that?

If you’re looking for a more refined experience, check out Our Lavish Guests who provide beautiful black and white portraits at your event.

Do you offer wedding albums?

Yes, we offer a variety of beautifully-flat albums with many options to customize your perfect book of memories. We also offer guest books with photos from your engagement session and duplicate books which make a perfect gift for mom and dad.
